2020 New Book Releases

Though there are many books I was looking forward to reading in 2019 that I didn’t get to, I still look forward to listing the 2020 new book releases that I’m excited about.

Here’s 7 new book releases I’m anticipating for 2020. This post contains affiliate links for your convenience. As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases.

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins

If you know me, you know that I’m a Hunger Games fan. I used to read the trilogy every year. So, it’s no surprise that I’m excited about this addition to the series. The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes takes place at the Tenth Hunger Games, 64 years before the Hunger Games with Katniss Everdeen.

That’s really all I’ve heard about the book, but that’s enough. I wonder if some of the characters will be connected to any of the characters we learned about in the Hunger Game Series. I’m also wondering how everyone reacted to the establishment of the Hunger Games, considering that the Hunger Games is still fairly new. So many questions! I can’t wait to read this one. It release date is set for May 19, 2020.

Clap When You Land by Elizabeth Acevedo

All you have to do is mention the name Elizabeth Acevedo and I’m going to read it. I loved her first two books, The Poet X and With the Fire on High. Clap When You Land is written in verse and is about two sisters that learn about each other when their father dies. Elizabeth Acevedo writes beautifully and I can’t wait to read how this story unfolds. Clap When You Land will be out in May 2020.

Transcendent Kingdom by Yaa Gyasi

Again, another author that all I need to hear is their name. Yaa Gyasi, author of Homegoing, authored another book called Transcendent Kingdom. In keeping with her roots, this book is about a Ghanaian family living in Alabama and suffering from life’s tragedies. The main character is a PhD student studying neuroscience and believes that the information she’s learning will help her family. However, faith begins to play a role in this journey to healing as well. It seems Transcendent Kingdom is going to address mental health, grief, science, and faith all lin one story. I can’t wait! This book comes out in July 2020.

Clean Getaway by Nic Stone

Clean Getaway is a middle grades book about a boy’s road trip with his grandmother. The synopsis alludes to the fact that there will be some history lessons on segregation throughout the book. I thought about Bud, not Buddy after hearing about this book. It seems there will be lots of adventures and focus on family. This book comes out in January 2020.

Dear Justyce by Nic Stone

Another book by Nic Stone that I’m looking forward to is Dear Justyce. I loved Dear Martin and am super excited to see that there will be a sequel. Justyce was such a special kid and I’m looking forward to seeing how his life has changed. I believe there will still be letters written, except this time the letters are being written to Justyce. I don’t know much about the plot, but sometimes that’s how I like to start a book. Dear Justyce is supposed to be released in October 2020.

How Beautiful We Were by Imbolo Mbue

The author of Behold the Dreamers, brings us another story, but this time set in a small African village. This village has been negatively impacted by colonialism and an American oil company. Eventually the people take a risk and fight back. It’s a reminder of how western power and greed affected the continent of Africa. This book comes out in June 2020.

These are my most anticipated new book releases for 2020. I will be sure to provide updates after I read them!
